There is a sense of walking into the mirror of another reality with these pieces. The dichotomy lies in the fact that Melissa Sullivan's subject matter is the extremly commonplace around us in city and suburban streets. Even the most remote areas have a downtown, usually, and have another world behind the glass. You can do so many things...get your hair cut, go to the dry cleaners, buy some cheap wine, the list goes on. The quality of these photographs, however, display the ephemeral nature of what we consider time and matter. Our everyday concerns become quite abstract and limitless. We live in a universe that we perceive as being quite secure in the physical realm. Melissa Sullivan explores the relationship between ourselves and the other world behind the glass by delving into the commonplace.
