"Last November, President Bush was quoted as saying, “Absolutely, we’re winning.” The following month, he was quoted as saying, “We’re not winning: we’re not losing . . . this ideological war we’re in is going to last awhile.” Clearly, the language of war is open to interpretation. What is not open to interpretation is the fact that, as of December 20, 2006, 2,942 U.S. service members had died in the war in Iraq. Whatever your political affiliation, that is a sobering fact that is not lost in translation."
