Don Bergland examines a trilogy of traditional experience in which Purgatory is omitted completely. We go right from Hell to Heaven in these constructs. If Purgatory is the realm of Humanity struggling to Divinity, we are completely stuck. The artist transforms the soul straight from Hell. The souls hang as pieces of meat, pained in the process of the act of transformation. The promise is gone. The act is as a sideshow, diminished. Even longing for hope is challenged and forgotten. Divinity is self-serve, in a Fast-Food Heaven.
