Returning home. It is quite by chance that the theme of this exhibition coincided with the Holidays and the New Year. We hadn't consciously planned this, and yet, the sincerity of the artists in this exhibition has ensured the timeliness of it. This sincerity doesn't imply over-sentimentality however. It is precisly a reflection of inner rootedness and care for the nurturing of the self through this that is emphasized here. There is a certain amount of intimacy present that can be said to be rare, as many times, even in the Caladan Site, the emphasis can be on impact and immediate content. We invite you to reflect, investigate, and experience. This exhibition enables all of this.

There is a sense of walking into the mirror of another reality with these pieces. The dichotomy lies in the fact that Melissa Sullivan's subject matter is the extremly commonplace around us in city and suburban streets. Even the most remote areas have a downtown, usually, and have another world behind the glass. You can do so many things...get your hair cut, go to the dry cleaners, buy some cheap wine, the list goes on. The quality of these photographs, however, display the ephemeral nature of what we consider time and matter. Our everyday concerns become quite abstract and limitless. We live in a universe that we perceive as being quite secure in the physical realm. Melissa Sullivan explores the relationship between ourselves and the other world behind the glass by delving into the commonplace.
